Outdoor space in the Chicago suburbs has to earn its keep in a short season, which is why the layout matters more than the material. A patio that is too small to hold a table and chairs at the same time does not get used, and a deck with no shade does not get used in July.
We build poured-concrete and paver patios, decks, covered porches, seat walls and the grading and drainage that keep water moving away from the foundation instead of toward it. The before-and-after here replaced a dark, overgrown paver patio with a wide poured slab, a cut-stone seat wall and a covered porch off the back of the house.
